Atelier Lumina is the antithesis of a traditional tattoo shop. It's bright, warm, cozy thoughtful and intentional.
Atelier Lumina was created by Maria, formerly co-owner of Midnight Tattoo. Maria prioritizes clients’ autonomy, comfort, informed consent, and communication, ultimately giving clients control over something they will wear forever. Maria’s communication and scheduling process allows for incredible consistency in her work. She prides herself on over delivering & never over promising — for this reason Atelier Lumina operates by Appointment Only.
Upon scheduling, Maria is thorough and happy to answer any & all questions. When it comes time for your appointment, you’ll have clear directions to locate the studio and all the information needed to ensure a feeling of preparedness. During your tattoo, Atelier Lumina is equipped with an array of amenities to make the experience as enjoyable as possible. Watch a movie, read your book, help yourself to snacks, sip on tea, or listen to music in bunny slippers and a cozy blanket!
Atelier Lumina hopes to curate an experience that feels like self care, before sending you off with a beautiful piece of art that helps you feel more at home in your body. Be warned though: you may catch RepeatClientSyndrome, common side effects include being tempted to adorn every inch effects include being tempted to adorn every inch of un-tattooed skin!
About Maria
Maria was born and partially raised in Bucharest, Romania, immigrated to Vancouver B.C in 2001, later relocated to California, and once more landing in Portland, Oregon.
Before tattooing, she was a chef in several fine dining restaurants in Los Angeles - many of the skills that allowed her to succeed in the restaurant industry, combined with her collective life experiences have shaped her creativity, integrity, work ethic, interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
Maria started learning how to tattoo in 2019 and quickly realized that her love for creating a beautiful experience was much more fulfilled in the medium of tattooing. She specializes in fine line tattoos that flow with and compliment the body. Her subject matter mostly consists of nature elements, flora & fauna, as well as text, script and ornamental designs.
Maria considers the practice of tattooing as well as the trust in the exchange as sacred. She firmly believes that clients should feel empowered in their body, not like a canvas, and that all tattoos are for all body shapes, sizes and skin colors (if owner of said body wants them) and that you should never feel rushed or pressured into getting a tattoo.
Outside of tattooing, Maria spends most of her free time drawing more tattoos, playing with her two rescue pups, fixating on a new craft, yapping with friends, and doing anything possible to leave things slightly better than she found them. Maria is deeply passionate about social justice and collective liberation. Atelier Lumina operates under an anti-capitalism economic structure, Maria does not believe it is acceptable to earn a profit from the labor of others. All artists at Atelier Lumina pay for overhead at cost and keep 100% of thier profits.
